In reality, leadership is who we are. It’s how you show up (or don’t) in every facet of your life – from how you make your bed in the morning to how you parent to how you manage your team and put out “fires” at work.
The problem is, most us have been subconsciously handed a leadership philosophy that isn’t actually ours.
It was borrowed or forged by observing and absorbing the impact of someone else’s behavior.
And we wonder why we feel like an imposter!

Over the last 10+ years, I have experienced all sides of the leadership spectrum.
I know what it’s like to be a 20-year-old newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, standing in front of a group of combat veterans, with no idea of what to say or do.
I know what it’s like to “borrow” leadership attributes from people who seem to "have it altogether,” only to have it blow up in your face for lack of authenticity.
I know what it’s like to lead from a place of vulnerability and receive criticism and ridicule from those who believe you should lead out in a different way.
I know what it’s like to be in a high visibility role, to receive tons of accolades from the people around you, and still feel like an imposter.
I know what it’s like to feel like you’re killing it in your professional life, only to come home to a personal one in shambles.
And I know what it’s like to work with and for a toxic leader who sucks the living soul out of you.
Which is how I know that whether you are just starting out in your leadership journey or you have been in a leadership role for some time, the state of your life can be directly correlated to the quality of your leadership.
